Parshas Eikev

" I'm in the middle of a book now, but I'll visit her in the hospital
tomorrow."

"And now Israel, what does G-d want from you? To fear Him and walk in
His ways..." (Divorim 10:12) The Chofetz Chaim (Ahavas Chessed chapter 11)
says the Torah prefaces this statement with "now" because tomorrow we'll all
do good--we've got to try walking in G-d's ways today!!

Mañana (tomorrow in Spanish) never comes.

Have a great Shabbos !!

Rabbi Chaim Flom

Dear Rabbi I found this statement:
The Talmud in Tractate Shabbos (151a) " Remember your creator in the days of your youth before the bad days come to pass and the years about which you will say I have no desire of them".

I understand that "Now" in our days we have the opportunity to do Mitzvot gaining kadosh baruj hu that will maintain our way in the aolam haba. We do good way now in this life to stock up science and wisdom ( Torah ) because later when the Messianic era comes there would be not a chance to gained good deeds since there would be no poverty, no sins,no needs.

Am I in the right tract?

Todda Raba.

Dear Ochoa,
Thanks for your letter.
The Gemara in Shabbos (151b) that you quoted is fascinating (and I'll
discuss it) but the "now" that I was referring to in my dvar Torah was doing
Mitzvos "now" and not waiting until "tomorrow", literally (as opposed to
this world vs. the time of Moshiach).
The Gemara in Shabbos says what you quoted and says that this is a
machlokes (argument). Shmuel holds that in the time of Moshiach the only
thing that will change is "shibud malchius", our being ruled over by other
nations. This opinion is how the Rambam rules (Hilchos Melachim 12:2). However, in certain aspects the 2 opinions aren't as far apart as would seem. (The first opinion says that Moshiach's times are miraculous and as you mentioned, people won't have a yetzer hara.)The Rambam says in Maamar Techias Hamaisim, that people will live very long lives, before they die. I think he is forced to say it because the possuk in Zacharia 8:4 says "the old men and old women will be in the streets of Jerusalem with their walking sticks because of old age". Anyways, I once heard that even according to the Rambam who holds like Shmuel, because of the tranquility, we will be healthier and live longer. There is much more on the subject, but I certainly am not an expert on it.)
Take care.
