"Mr. Capone (the famous Mafioso from Chicago), I don't think that your
being a character reference for him will be of much value."

"And Moshe said to Aharon (his brother, the High Priest) 'atone for
yourself and for the people'..." (Vayikra 9:7) The Ramban & Ibn Ezra explain
that before Aharon could bring a sacrifice to help atone for the Jewish
people, his sins had to be taken care of first !!

In any area of guiding or influencing , we ourselves must be proper
role models with "our house in order".
