women are not obligated with time-bound mitzvahs because their role is to build the jewish home, if this is so then why aren't women commanded from the torah to have children. Also a man can't have a child on his own, so why is he commanded (as opposed to the woman being commanded) to have children?

The reason for this is that it is more in the power of the man to accomplish this mitzvah,"because it is the way of a man to go after a woman,and it is not the way for a woman to go after a man". So since it is not in a woman's ability to accomplish this mitzvah it is only incumbent upon the man.

This just reinforces my question, because men can also not accomplish this mitzva alone, so why isn't it commanded to both men and women?

It is mentioned in the Gemmorah and this reason is brought down in the Turei Even and the Mincha Chinuch.

As for your second question, the answer is that it is in a man's ability to get married,but getting married is something that is not in a woman's hands.

Because it is still a very great mitzvah. She is fulfilling the purpose of creation by bringing up a Family that will follow in the ways of the Torah and who will themseves perpetuate other familes down the generations. What could be more important than that?

your answer about it being a guys mitzvah, makes me wonder.. If a man was married, and had say two sons and two daughters, then for some reason his first wife passed away and he remarried, is he still supposed to have more children, inorder to fulfill peru urevu? or, is a women obligated to get married in the first place?
