Our rabbi recently gave a shiur about the number three in Judaism. Moshe was the third son, there were three patriarchs, ... and others that I can not remember. One point was made around the significance of 3 children in a Jewish family, analogous to a tripod providing stability. Can anyone give me some more information?

Shalom Aryeh, numbers carry a lot of weight in Judaism. Do you want some more information on the "number 3" or numbers in general? Take the number 13, for example, which is superstitiousous in most of the non-Jewish world (Think - Friday the 13th, No 13th Floor in many buildings); and look at what the number 13 represents in the Jewish world:
