Hi...I just had a quick look to make sure this topic has not been discussed before, but I was wondering where I might find a comprehensive list of Kosher Cosmetics, Household & Bathroom Products.

I was also wondering if these are for all year round, or whether they are only for purim?

One last question...which should probably be in business topics somewhere...Is it o.k to sell these products, even if you are not suppose to wear them/use them?

L' Shana Tova everyone

Why would you need these to be kosher? Maybe detergents for washing dishes, but not otherwise.

Have a look at Kosher Australia

I think you mean Pesach [Passover]. Even then, although there are many such products with kosher certification for Pesach, on the whole it is not necessary.

Why not?

As far as products that have been tested on animals is concerned, I don't think there is any prohibition in Jewish Law against using them.

Isn't it, if it is something that is to be consumed or a utensil that touches or holds food, then it needs to be Kosher?

G-d loves each and everyone of us without strings attached. He just wants us to try our best, do our best. Mistakes and errors are part of being human (and that is how G-d created us - as a human and not as a robot).

I think what Katja is picking up on is the "environmentally kosher" ideas which ahve Kaballistic strings...like being earth friendly about recycling ones veggies in a compost heap, or not using excessive pesticides which harm the environment in a particularly lethal way.

Katja, these things are not mandated, so are not required, so whatever earth-kind things you do, do for yourself. I myself recycle very little, rather I try to cut down on unnecessary concumption and buy things like laundry detergent in bulk bottles to save on waste. I am not a huge believer in many recycling projects because they use so much energy to recycle, that it is counterproductive. My view is in the minority on this one though. Find your own way.

We did have a discussion on some of this under the topic "Torah and Animals" or the other way around, and came up with some good info. Shalom! Yocheved

Hi Sam, It is a term coined for the movement of people who believe that we must be good to the earth we live on and that by trashing it, we are not treating it in a Kosher manner. So by doing things i.e. planting the trees, etc. we are behaving in a correct, permissable way (hence kosher) by being good stewards of the land. The premise is that killing animals of into extinction, like the passenger pigeon, etc., strip mining, etc. is not kosher behaviour, as the results are irreversable. A better wrd wuld be to say earth friendy (in my opinion).

And how does this tie in to "Kabbalistic strings"?

You are asking the wrong person if yu are looking for detailed info. on this--as I said, I rarely even recycle. I believe it has to do with the idea of not hurting any living thing (which ties into animal testng being looked down upon by these adherents) and the more mystical ideas of everything being completely and inextricably linked together and so treating the earth poorly is treating ourselves poorly and so on. There is truth to it, but as I said, I am not a real adherent, so cannot help you with detailed knowledge. I am sure you could look it up though.

My grandparents were both big time kabblists and really embraced the mystical. I have some of those leanings, but never went into it as deeply as they did. If they weren't both of blessed memory, they would, I feel certain, give you a grande lecture on the subject ad nauseum. I should've paid more attn. As it is, afraid Google will have to do. Many Lubavitchers are into that side of things as well.
