I live in the American West and I don't have much access to my Orthodox traditions (the few Jews here are Reformed and they don't think as Frum Jews)...I'm originally from New York City. Jews here think that donating to Israel is anti-American, so when I asked about such organizations I received a few nasty comments. Does anyone know of a few good organizations that Americans can donate to to help support the land of Israel? Are there organizations or groups that maintain and build Temples that take donations? Are there groups that spread Torah teaching and knowlege of Judaism?

I would suggest to donate to any of the many Yeshivos in Israel. There, you'll not only help Torah study in Israel, but also help the economy in general, because all the money will be spent there in Israel. One name would be the Yeshiva Mir (Where Rabbi Mitterhoff learns.)

. Jews here think that donating to Israel is anti-American,

Next time ask them if America is anti-American, since they give much more aid to Israel then we can ever dream to give.

For general information on charity organizations which follow normal accounting procedures in Israel see
http://www.givingwisely.org.il/

The priorities for giving charity are first the poor or educational institutions in your own city and then the rest of the world. However, giving to Israel is a special category since it is the homeland of all the Jewish people and the success of the Jewish community in Israel is central to all Jews.
I would recommend giving to institutions you know or check them out on the site above. Israel is not a poor country so just general contributions is not the best way to give. However, yeshivot, hospitals, services to the poor never have enough money, so it is better to give to specific institutions.

Cheers,

Aryeh Shore

I've sent you an email requesting more information about your community or group. It's quite a wonderful service that you are doing by building/maintaining Temples for Hashem. Thank you for letting us know about your group.
May Hashem Bless you,
