i've heard of people who curse three times, like in shakespeare, in an attempt to change the outcome of certain circumstances, or of someones life - curses - just what does the torah teach about these types of words and actions that people do?

the reason i am asking, is that i remembered about the rabbi's who cursed a certain prime minister in a round circle type cerimony - i found it a bit strange and since the prime minister was already in his 70's and had a pre-disposition for some ailment - of no consequence

surely, the torah warnes against superstition - including curses?

Curses are not superstitious. There are plenty of Gemaras that do bring the power of curses, especially the cursing of Shamta, like the rabbis'.

Makos 11a as paraphrased by Kollel Iyun Hadaf

(l) (Rav Yehudah): The curse of a Chacham is fulfilled, even if it was unjustified

Also Gittin 35a

4. The woman: Your stomach should turn over - you ruled against me as 2 sages whose rulings do not go together!

i. They reversed the chair of Rabah bar Rav Huna and returned it, hoping that this would be considered fulfillment of the curse - still, he got sick.

Also see Sugya in MK 16

9. A Cherem (a type of curse, worse than a Niduy) may also be issued against the offender if necessary.

See there for more cases of how cursing works in these instances.

Regularly, there is an Issur to curse Shomer Mitzvos. See Choshen Mishpat 27 at legnth to those Halachos.

That is correct, but the Memra there is the exact one as the Gemarah in Makkos that I brought down.

That Bar hedya said on that that of course it would work in my case when it is justified.

To our "Anonymous" member,

There is a famous dictum in the Talmud:
אל תהיה ברכת הדיוט קלה בעיניך
"Let not the blessing of a commoner be considered a light thing in thy sight."

Conversely, it is also said:
אל תהיה קללת הדיוט קלה בעיניך
"Let not the curse of a commoner be considered a light thing in thy sight."
