If the "matching" technology at the Daven Exchange project would be of interest, I think it could be adapted for this type of thing.

Rabbi Mitterhoff,

What a great suggestion for you to ask for suggestions in this most desperate and needed field!

Of course, besides designating special columns for each person to categorize himself/herself (e.g. orthodox/modern orthodox/kippot serugot/conservative/) etc., etc., there should also be a column for each person to give his/her age preferences, and if he or she would settle for a divorced person with or without a child.

Of course, a recent photograph of the person should be uploaded to make the shiduch that much more easier. However, I would go with fictitious names (pseudonyms) at the start, or simply initials, in order to protect that person's privacy. Those persons who do not wish to submit a picture of themselves should be free to forbear in doing so.

This would need to be a truly frum site. No pictures and I would think no direct contact without going through a shatchan first.

Rabbi Mitterhoff, what do you have in mind?

[Also, wishing everyone a happy and healthy Shavuos.]

Rabbi Mitterhoff,

Forgive me for my ignorance, but being that I've never visited any of these shidduchim sites, I'm not clear on what exactly is the problem. I suspect that others may be as lost on this issue as myself. Can you explain some of the aspects you take issue with on those sites? Perhaps more of us can be of assistance then.

Thank you,

Magedman

For some reason there seems to be too many unmarried orthodox Jews who are not getting any younger. Someone suggested to me to see what I could do to make a truly kosher shiduchim site. I think the idea would be that there would be not direct contact between the people without the shochan making the contact first. We would need to set up a way for people viewing profiles (without pictures) to contact that person’s shotchan.

Perhaps instead of having an online dating site, have an online shadchan, or shadchanim, where people apply privately with all the details and the shadchanim would then try to match participants up based on the details given, and would then initiate contact between the two parties.

Gila has the right idea. The problem is how to implement a solution.

Please note that the Baltimore based Shidduch network www.shiduchnetwork.org does exactly what
has been suggested. You have to go through the shadchan listed to contact the shiduchees. Registration is free and it's fairly easy for one to register as a shadchan also.

What is wrong with these sites?:

www.sawyouatsinai.com

www.orthodate.com

www.frumster.com

www.dosidate.com

They seem to accomodate all orthodox needs.
