Question:
Here's the third dilemma.

The runaway trolley car is hurtling down a track where it will kill five people. You are standing on a bridge above the track and, aware of the imminent disaster, you decide to jump on the track to block the trolley car. Although you will die, the five people will be saved.

Just before your leap, you realise that you are too light to stop the trolley. Next to you, a fat man is standing on the very edge of the bridge. He would certainly block the trolley, although he would undoubtedly die from the impact. A small nudge and he would fall right onto the track below. No one would ever know. Should you push him?

Choices:
Yes
No

What Torah sources speak to the relative consequences of an error of omission vs an error of comission? I think that one speaks to this problem.

The physics of small push on strong heavy person make the question illogical, as do the physics of their being a differential momentum relative to a trolley by a skinny person vs his or her heavy victim are also illogical.

Is there a Torah principle which states that pigs milk cannot be kosher since from treif can only be treif, and similarly no good can come about through an aveira, such as murder?

Finally, while a standing army might order a soldier into a mission he is not likely to survive, would a lay person be permitted to even suggest to another lay person that they have an opportunity to sacrifice their own life in a feeble attempt to stop a runaway train from mowing down several other people?

You can never take an innocent person's life. THAT person could give his life for other Jews, but that person would have to make that decision for himself and no one could do it for him.
