I have heard that the commandment to "Be fruitful and multiply" only applies to Jews today. Why is that, since Adam and Chava are the ancestors of all people, why does it only apply to Jews?
And also I have read that a Jewish family is not complete unless they have a son and a daughter (one opinion), or two sons (another opinion). Which is it? Is it both? I am of the opinion that it is a son and a daughter because I have read that Cain and Able had twin sisters, and I have also read that Jacob's twelve sons all had twin sisters because that is how nature worked then. Is that true? Any thoughts? |

Because it was one of the 613 Mitzvos giiven to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai. That removed it from being obligatory to non-jews.
According to Beis Hillel [the School of Hillel] it is one of each, whereas Beis Shammai say it is two boys. We rule like Beis Hillel.
Quite possibly. Beis Hillel, however, give as their reason the fact that it says in the Torah, "male and female He created them." |

Is there also an opinion that it is one grandson and one granddaughter? |

The midrash reports that Kayin was born with 1 twin sister whom he married, and Hevel was born with 2 twin sisters whom he married. And another midrash reports that although each of Yaakov's 12 sons were born with a twin sister, they each married the twin sister of one of their brothers (or perhaps specifically a half sister - from a different mother). |

""The midrash reports that Kayin was born with 1 twin sister whom he married, and Hevel was born with 2 twin sisters whom he married."
I have not heard that Hevel had two twin sisters, but I did read that one reason Kayin killed Hevel was because he wanted Hevel's wife. But the way I understood it was that she was Kayin's twin sister and she was very beautiful. (but maybe I got that backwards) "And another midrash reports that although each of Yaakov's 12 sons were born with a twin sister, they each married the twin sister of one of their brothers (or perhaps specifically a half sister - from a different mother)." Was Dinah a twin to one of Jacob's sons? If so, why was it Levi and Simeon who were involved in killing Shechem and his people? Was it out of jealousy because she was promised to one of them, or was one of them her twin? |

Dinah was not born as a twin sister of any of the 12 sons. The issue was not jealousy but admonishing a rapist and a foreign nation who thought to assimilate us, for our women and wealth, and rationalize / excuse / sacrifice that one rape in the process.... in my humble opinion. ... Not to overly complicate matters, two more small points. There is a midrash which says that it was initially part of the plan that Leah's pregnancy with Dinah was supposed to be a 7th son through Leah, however there was a switch that Binyamin would be born to Rochel, and Dinah to Leah, so that Rochel had no less than the number of sons as Bilhah and Zilpah. And there is also a midrash which says that Dinah only agreed to leave Shechem's castle with Shimon and Levi after Shimon agreed to marry her. I do not believe that in the enumeration of the 70 souls who came to Egypt that there were any children of Dinah fathered by Shimon. |

Dinah's child (a daughter) is adopted by Potiphar, and she marries Yosef... which is why Yaakov blesses them as "his own" (Ephriam, and Menasheh).... |
