When we recite Shir HaMaalos before Shabbos benching, one of the posukim there (Tehillim 126) describe the advent of the Moshiach as such an amazing revelation that "When Hashem will return the captivity of Zion, we will be like dreamers." Conditions will be so bad, that when we "wake up" to reality, we will be disoriented and look back with confusion over the state of affairs that pre-empted Moshiach's arrival.
Therefore I find it is painfully ironic that the decision from the Israeli Supreme Court should come on Parshas Shoftim to raze synogauges in Gaza. It seems to me we are one giant step closer to Moshiach. Of Jews so not preserve the sanctity of synogauges, how can we expect respect from our non-Jewish neighbors and enemies? Read the article below for further detail: Israel’s Supreme Court authorizes demolition of Gaza Synagogues (http://www.debka.com/headline.php?hid=727) September 8, 2005, 10:10 PM (GMT+02:00) By a narrow majority of four to three, the high court in Jerusalem ruled that the government may order the destruction of some 20 synagogues in the evacuated Israeli locations of the Gaza Strip. The decision was handed down by Justices Barak, Bainisch, Focaccia and Grunis on the following grounds: “Despite the importance and sensitivity of the issue, circumstances do not permit any further discussion.” The minority opinion as voiced by Justices Levy, Arbel and Rubinstein was that the ”disposition of synagogues in the evacuated areas is of weighty enough concern to warrant further scrutiny to determine whether the government’s decision is in fact within the law.” The majority court ruling gave prime minister Ariel Sharon a free hand beyond appeal to bulldoze the synagogues as required by the Palestinian Authority, regardless of any considerations of religious or human rights or the honor of the Jewish faith. Two pre-fabricated synagogues will be removed and relocated. Israel troops, before they withdraw from the Gaza Strip, will be required to flatten eighteen Jewish houses of worship. The last word rests with the cabinet at its weekly session next Sunday. |

Sorry for the typo above, If Jews do not preserve the sanctity of synogauges, how can we expect respect from our non-Jewish neighbors and enemies?
Also, let me add that this weeks parsha defines the proper Judiciary System, a court without a political agenda and without seeking to act as another legistlative body. May Hashem instill in the decision makers the best decision for the Jewish people. |
