Nice article. And I did read it.

I do know that G-d was with my mother-in-law, may she rest in peace. She was a Holocaust survivor and she told me stories about the Holocaust.

When she was in the Ghetto, the Nazis would come every so often and sort everyone. Once when she was being sorted a soldier told her to go in a different direction than her cousin. She went and grabbed her cousin's arm and said " I go with her." Then the soldier said
"No, she goes with you." That way was the way to life.

They escaped the guetto and stayed in the forest with the Russian Partisan Army. Once she was cooking soup on a fire and there was gunfire. So she poured the soup on the fire and saved everyone. She got an award.

And there was a lady who believed that if she stayed with my mother-in-law that she would live, so she followed her and clung to her. She survived.

I just had a chance to read the article and I disagree completely with it.

Quote "The answer, though the pope didn't say so clearly, is that a world in which God always intervened to prevent cruelty and violence would be a world without freedom -- and life without freedom would be meaningless"

This is of course wrong. Hashem intervened many times. By Sancherev, Haman, Hussain (where did the missiles fall?) and countless other times. We have the freedom and they have their freedom. In heaven there is no different Haman, who ended up as a comic figure in his downfall, and Nevachadnezer or Hitler that actually destroyed and is looked upon as real villains. both used their freedom to try to destroy. but the results are different.

There are many many Hitlers around. If they would have the ability, they would do exactly what Hitler did. The Difference? They don't get to power, so they never get the ability to do it. It's kind of amazing that someone with a modest background like Hitler got into power and not to mention that he survived WW1 and a mustard bomb plus all the attempts on his life.

At first I was bewildered that the Pope wouldn't know the
verses of the Tochacha, after all, he should be an expert in the Bible. Then I realized that he's quoting it. See D'varim 32:37 (2nd P'shat in Rashi and is also in Gitten 56b) that the nations will say "where is your G-d" (when they see what happened to you)

I already wrote many times my theory why it happened. Of course I don't know for sure, but just to relieve the question, that a possible answer could be like X. But I think if you study the history you can see the hand of Hashem in the rise and the fall of Hitler. You could see the hand of Hashem in Israel, that the Nazis got so close, almost taking over Egypt and would have destroyed the Jews there. The other miracles that happened.Etc.

I can go on with this, but I need to go, but the main point is that nothing happens without Hashem. In all generations people come up to destroy us and we need Hashem's protection to save us. If we're meriting he will save us. If the judgement on us is not favorable, he has no choice but to leave us to the 70 wolves.

Hashem had offered us an ultimate survival kit long before gay parades in Jerusalem, kassams, giving away Eretz Israel, portraits of satan-stalin on kibbutzes, and even before Persian hitler-hamman (cursed be his name) was born. The choice was ours. So are the concequences.
