Ten Steps to Greatness (From Rabbi Avigdor Miller, Z'TL, Tape #706)
EVERY DAY, DO THE FOLLOWING: 1. Think about Olom Habah for half a minute or more. 2. Say "I love You, Hashem" privately. 3. Do an anonymous act of kindness. 4. Encourage another person. 5. Think about yesterday's actions. 6. Make all your actions L'shem Shomayim; say it at least once daily. 7. Look at another's face and think "I see the Image of Hashem." 8. Give someone a full smile. 9. Spend 30 seconds in the morning appreciating your clothing and say out loud, "Malbish Arumim." 10. Sit briefly on the floor and mourn the Churban Bais Hamikdosh. ----------- Reprinted from the Hakhel Community Awareness Bulletin, Volume III, Number 1, Tishrei 5763 -------------------------- Hakhel MIS -------------------------- |

Would it be as valid to say this phrase in another language, perhaps English, if one knew its English translation? |

How about if you said it in Hebrew and English? The purpose, is to show appreciation of the clothing that we are fortunate to be able to have and wear, so I'd think that anyway one can do so, would be okay.

Okay, lets try this a different way. These 2 words mean "[He] clothes the naked" apparently and is likely refering to either the phrase within the morning bracha, or this 9th suggestion is telling the reader to just say these 2 words, and is not intending to suggest saying the whole bracha at this time? For more common brachos, such as on food, when we say to say a bracha we refer to the whole sentence by a term reflecting the specific words which identify this bracha from other brachos. In the context of these suggested 10 steps I have no idea whether the author is refering to [what is presumed to be] a well-known bracha often refered to by these 2 words, or whether he means to say just this 2-word phrase. And for me at least I had no idea what these words meant when taken out of the context of early morning brachos --- I guess I don't pay much attention to things I say before I am awake! |

I think it means just saying those two words, so as to make it a conscious awareness for appreciation of one's clothes. |

Sam, thank you for this. I already do much of this every day without even thinking. It's nice to be able to visit with those things I should do more often and more of. It keeps the mindful, mindful and the humble aware of who they are.
