From the files of real-life adventures in kashrus observance.... A parve tea kettle had deposited in it: a freshly used soapy milchig sponge, a fleishig vegetable peeler (presumably fleishig on account of having been washed with fleishig items). The water is boiled to make tea. (Yum!) Let's say the tea cup had been milchig. What is the status of 1) the kettle 2) the peeler 3) the cup? (A three year old was involved....) If it were me, (and this time it wasn't) I'd throw away the sponge, but if for some reason there were a reason not to 4) the sponge?

Of course we need to ask some questions. Was the peeler washed with Fleishigs within 24 hours? If not, or if you’re not sure, then there is nothing that’s not permitted. (taking on that the particles of Milchigs on the sponge would be less than 60 in the water, which is probably the case. Even if known that the peeler was washed within 24 hours with Fleishigs, there is a lot of reasons to permit everything, but I still must mull it over.v
