It is quoted often by mechanchim in both the US and Israel. Rav Wolbe discusses this in his sefer זריעה ובנין בחינוך.

The laws of the secular State of Israel do not dictate any punishment whatsoever for a married woman who is caught by her husband in the act of adultery. In some middle-eastern countries, adultery is a crime punishable by death. The Torah also prescribes death for an adulterer and an adulteress who are caught in the very act (by at least two competent witnesses). Even though, today, there can be no death penalty without a Sanhedrin, there should at least be some censure by the secular State for a woman who is caught in the act of adultery, and for her brazen lover. They should not be exonerated. What sort of reprisals, if any, can be suggested to the State, given as a recommendation to Israel's Attorney General for combating this crime? Or should we, as orthodox Jews, have nothing to do with the secular State and its froward laws at all? David |

I am a firm believer in the oral traditions bequeathed to us by Israel's Sages, and I hold very dearly the words of the prophets. As to my question raised on this thread (concerning adultery), we all know that it is wrong to commit adultery. "If mine heart have been enticed by a [married] woman, or if I have laid in wait at my neighbour's door, then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her. For this is lewdness, [and] it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges." -Job 31:9-11 On the other hand, we find in the prophets: "I shall not remember [to afflict punishment] upon your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your daughter-in-laws when they commit adultery." - Hosea 4:14 Has the State of Israel taken it upon itself to make good this prophecy?
