About 150 years ago, the Sdei Chemet wrote that he doesn't understand why we don't say the bircat for the baal habit (bircat hamzaon) like it says in the gemara and Shulchan Aruch. We see in recent years various askenazic sidurim have been reintroducing it, most famously the Art Scroll who didn't put it in its bencher but years later felt confident enough to put it in its sidur.
Does anyone know how it got lost in the first place? Has any gedol recently giving his opinion on the worthiness of the effort? Some benchers now have the blessing for the baalat habiyit. Anyone know the basis for this? Aryeh Shore |

A nafka mina could be if you eat in the house of a widow and while benching you insert the blessing for the owner of the house it would in fact be proper to address her - the owner for who she is. I have no basis or Mekor for this answer it just seems like a logical Nafka Mina.
