You will not understand this post unless you've learned the Gemara in discussion. Sorry for not explaining it properly, but it would take WAY too long.
There is a machlokes amoraim about chezkas chayim. (near the end of the narrow lines.) ש What's the difference between this opinion and that of Rabah on the next amud (×©×ž× ×ž×ª ×œ× ×—×™×™×©×™× ×Ÿ, ×©×ž× ×™×ž×•×ª ×—×™×™×©×™× ×Ÿ)? Sorry if this question is too involved or textual. Michael |

I think R' Ada is focusing on the situation, and that the situation will eventually lead to eating when it's Ussur in his lifetime. This was asked on that the stuation may never lead to that, since she might die before him. But rava is focusing on the "object" (the husband) and the possibility of sudden death on that object at any given moment (not only on the eventual) so any given time could be the last for the husband.

So you're saying that R' ada is saying it midin geder, shema tavo le'echol trumah, and Raba (not Rava, btw) is saying midin chazaka - a person has no chezkas chayim for an hour for now, only for right now.
I think you're right, but I'll need to sit down tomorrow night with the Gemara and go throught the sugya properly again. Thanks, though. |
